More than 3.000 yrs ago the Egtved girl was buried in an oak coffin in a large barrow. A small birch bark container was placed at her feet. After the discovery of her grave in 1921 analyses revealed that the container once held some kind of fermented drink – probably a kind of honey sweetened beer. The fermented drink showed traces of lingonberry or cranberries along with wheat, bog myrtle and numerous pollen grains from linden.
